- Very strong violence
- frequent strong language (e.g. 'F***') and others such as (c***')
- Strong portrayals of sexual activity
- Scenes of sexual violence
- Strong Horror
- Strong blood and gore
- Real sex (in some circumstances)
My film does involve blood for example but not an extreme amount of it to be an 18 classification. It doesn't dwell on pain inflicted and imitable behaviour.
General factors influence the decisions made on the classification because of theme, tones, context and also the impact that it could have on the audience. These are just the main ones that are focused on.
Context -
Being the main, primary classification to see which category the film falls into. Considering context the film is looked at and the public expectation is taken into in general. Issues such as sex, language, and violence are looked at. In doing this factors such as the setting of work and the way it’s presented so for example aggression shown in violence may be classified as a higher rating.
Theme -
This play a huge role on choosing the category which the film will suit best. For example if a film was trying to portray the idea of racial issues then it is easier for it to offend a certain audience. But this on the other hand depends on how these are presented. If you showed a film that implied sexual violence then it could possibly be suitable for an age rating of 15 but if you were to actually show these sexual violence scenes then the age rating would increase.
Tone and impact
The tone of the film and its impact on the audience. If the theme of the film is not an issue the tone of it may be, with a dark tone the classification will go up for example a horror movie where threat may be higher than the level of violence.
