Rape - Rape is normally used in horror films because its scary and its a sense of torture inflicted on a character.

Blood - Blood is used in Horror films because its a known convention and it is something the audience will automatically expect to see in that genre for film.

Death - Death is one of the main things used in horror films because in every horror film you expect a killing or death to occur. This is used and has an impact because it builds tension in the film and i think that this is one of the main aspects that builds up to the story.

Surgical marks - For a Horror surgical marks even though it is not a convention can be used for example, when the murderer holds the victim captive and wants to torture them. This is not always necessarily used because sometimes the murderer might just torture the victim without placing any marks. Surgical marks in films i find are often to get the audience more interacted.

Hanging people from the ceiling - Hanging people from the ceiling in this type of genre of film could have something to with supernatural behaviour because that's where i find it is mainly occurs. It also could be used in a way for a murderer to torture his victims.

Branding - Heating up metal and scoring someones skin with it to leave a trade mark that will scar forever.

Laying people on the table - This could be used to torture a victim. It also gives the opposite person power making the one on the table feel helpless.

Seeing all you mistakes - Flashbacks.

Joker smile - Iconic trademark for insanity.

Ripping heads of and then placing them back on - Sick and twisted.

Animal - Animal can often have an emotional effect to audience within the film.

Blood - Nearly every convention of horror often involves blood.

Torture -Traditional code of convention.

Supernatural - Supernatural can scare the audience to represent possession and strange happenings.

Gory -In a sense this used to make the audience feel disgusted.

Gothic - It doesn't have as much of a scary impact on the audience. An example of this could be Dracula.
